Bowen University Computer Science Team participated in the 2019 Nigeria Universities Computer Programming Contest (NUCPC) organized by the National Mathematical Centre, Abuja and came first among the sixteen universities that participated in the competition. The Team was to lead the first four teams to represent Africa in the 2019 Africa and Arab Collegiate Programming Championship (ACPC) held in November 2019 in Egypt. This result attests to the quality of training offered in the College to our students.
I welcome you to the College of Computing and Communication Studies (COCCS). Three programmes, namely Computer Science, Communication Arts and Mass Communication are domiciled in the College. The College is housed in a modern building equipped with state-of-the art facilities for the best of teaching, learning and research experiences. The Computer Science programme has a software engineering laboratory, a networking laboratory and a hardware laboratory. Communication Arts is also blessed with a speech laboratory and a media viewing centre. Mass Communication has a licensed radio studio, a television production studio (partly equipped) and a Public Relations and Advertising (PRAD) studio is also in view. The curricula run by the College in the three programmes have been designed to cater for new trends in those disciplines. The College is blessed with experienced and internationally exposed staff some of whom had had industry experience before joining the academia. The College is also always looking out for quality teaching and non-teaching staff to hire in a bid to achieve its vision and mission. College Administrator
Mrs. Oluwatosin Blessing Akinleye is a Senior Assistant Registrar. She has Bachelor of Arts in English and a master’s degree in Humanitarian and Refugee Studies. She is a member of Association of Nigeria University of Professional Administrator (ANUPA) and a member of the Nigeria Institute of Management (NIM).
College Accountant
Mr. Gabriel Abiodun Sodamola possesses a CNA and an MBA in Financial Management. He also has a B.Sc. and an HND in Accounting. He is a member of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria and the Institute of Economics of Nigeria.
Dr. Lala Olusegun Gbenga bagged a B.Sc degree in Computer Science in the year 2000. In 2004, he obtained his M.Sc. degree in Computer Science. He bagged his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science in the year 2015. His research interests are in Software Engineering, Cloud Computing, Grid Computing, Distributed Computing and Mobile Computing. He is a full member of Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) and also a full member of Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN). Dr. Lala Olusegun Gbenga has published in reputable journals and referred conference proceedings. He has contributed immensely to the progress of Computer Science and the University in general. He has been very effective, hardworking, dedicated and trustworthy. He has shown a very high sense of accountability in all he does. He has attended conferences and workshops and has also served as a member of technical committees.
MASS COMMUNICATION
Mass Communication Coordinator
Jendele Hungbo is Reader and Coordinator, Mass Communication programme in Bowen University. He previously taught in North-West University, Mafikeng, South Africa and the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa. He was a Volkswagen Foundation post-doctoral fellow at the Wits Institute of Social and Economic Research (WISER), University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa. He has been involved in research on media and culture in Africa. Jendele is a researcher on the ‘Passages of Culture: Media and Mediations of Culture in African Societies’ research project funded by the Volkswagen Foundation, Hanover, Germany and his research interests include media in Africa, media in conflict, African popular culture and post-colonial studies. Aided by almost two decades of industry experience, Jendele has attended conferences, seminars and workshops across Africa, Europe and North America. His research work on media and cultural studies in Africa has appeared in reputable academic journals.
COMMUNICATION ARTS
Communication Arts Coordinator
Dr Jaiyeola Aramide Oyewole obtained B.A. and M.A. degrees in Communication Arts, M.Ed. in Social Welfare and Ph.D. in Education with specialization in Communication Arts, all from the prestigious University of Ibadan, Nigeria. An astute lecturer and researcher in Applied, Gender and Health Communications with teaching experience spanning one and half decade across three departments and faculties. She is also interested in interpersonal, group and organizational communications. She has attended many conferences and published locally and internationally. She is a reviewer and has supervised over a hundred undergraduate projects. Her scholarly and professional contributions have been documented as peer-reviewed journal articles, chapters-in-books, conference proceedings and edited books. She is a member of ACCE and IAMCR.
