Dr. Ajibola Idowu hails from Odo-Owa in Oke-Ero LGA of Kwara State and he obtained both his primary and secondary educations in the community. He proceeded to University of Ilrorin in 1997 where he obtained his MB;BS degree in 2004. He had his internship training at the Federal Medical Centre, Abakaliki Ebonyi State from 2004-2005. He also served the nation as a youth corp member and a medical officer at General Hospital in Kurfi LGA of Katsina State from 2006-2007. He worked as a medical officer at Molly Specialist Hospital in Ibadan Oyo State between 2007 and Augiust, 2008.
His unique passion for population health made him to enroll in a residency training at the Department of Community Health, Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, Ile-Ife in 2008, where he obtained the Fellow of the West African College of Physician (FWACP) with bias in Public Health in 2013. He also bagged a Member of the Medical College of Physicians (MMCP) in 2010.
In January 2014, he started working as a lecturer at the Department of Community Medicine, Bowen University, Iwo. In this capacity, he has risen through the rank of Lecturer I to the rank of an Associate Professor. As a lecturer, he has actively participated in training and graduating eight sets of medical students. He has been coordinating the rural posting of medical students since inception and has supervised several research projects of medical students.
In 2019, Dr. Ajibola Idowu won the prestigious Orange Knowledge Programme (OKP) from The Kingdom of Netherlands, a fully funded scholarship programme which enabled him to participate in International Master of Public Health (MPH) programme at the Royal Tropical Institute, Amsterdam. He finished this training in 2020 with a distinction in Epidemiology.
Dr. Ajibola Idowu has authored 45 articles, majority of which have appeared in international peer-reviewed journals. He has chaired many committees within Bowen University and BUTH communities. Currently, he is the Chairman of the College of Health Sciences Ceremonial Committee. He has served as a member of BUTH Strategic Committee as well as Hospital Sanitation Committee. In 2021, he was appointed as the Sub-Dean for Students’ Affairs for Bowen University Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso.
Dr. Ajibola Idowu has attended several scientific conferences/workshops both locally and internationally. He enjoys watching sport events.
