Engr. Dr. Anthony O. Onokwai is a specialist in Automation, Thermofluids and Energy Systems, with a particular focus on: renewable and sustainable energy systems; control system engineering; energy and exergy analysis of automated energy systems; and the modeling and optimization of automated engineering systems. His motivation is rooted in optimizing the performance of engineering systems for both industrial and domestic applications. These align with the Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG7) for clean and affordable energy solutions. As an African, he recognizes the crucial need to reduce carbon emissions on the continent, placing him among a dedicated community of professionals addressing Africa’s urgent renewable energy challenges.

With a diverse professional journey, Dr. Onokwai has accumulated experience over two years as a Mechanical Technologist in the oil sector, four years as a laboratory Technologist at the university level, as well as five years as a lecturer in the university. His academic qualifications include a PhD, M.Eng (with Distinction), B.Eng (First Class), and HND (Upper Credit) all in Mechanical Engineering. The respective Universities are as follows: Landmark University, Omu-Aran; Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka; Kwara State University, Malete; and Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti. He is a registered Engineer with COREN, and a member of these professional bodies: Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE), Nigeria Association of Technologists in Engineering (NATE), and Project Management Professional (PMP).

Research

Dr. Onokwai’s research endeavors are notable, with over sixty high-impact and peer-reviewed journal publications. Furthermore, he has ten National and International conference papers. Out of these publications, forty-five are indexed in Scopus. He serves as a reviewer for these journal outlets: Energy, Ecology, and Environment (Springer); Renewable Energy (Elsevier); Bioresource Technology Reports (Elsevier); Frontiers in Energy Research and Portugaliae Electrochemica Acta. Dr. Onokwai is also an Associate Editor for Advances in Science and Technology.His dedication to research has been recognized through awards, including the Vice-Chancellor Award for Publishing in Scopus Indexed Journals and the Vice-Chancellor award as the most outstanding researcher at Bells University of Technology, Ota in September 2022 and 2023. Dr. Onokwai held the position of General Secretary during the Scopus-indexed International Conference of Engineering and Innovation Technology (ICEIT) at Bells University of Technology, Ota, Nigeria, in September 2023. Additionally, he served as the team lead for Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 7) initiatives at the same institution.
