Research
My primary area of interest is on malaria diagnosis. Several methods of malaria diagnosis are being deployed yearly, including AI initiative that is being developed.
I am an expert malaria microscopist with professional certification in malaria microscopist from AmReF, Kenya. We have evaluated performance of several rapid diagnostic test kits (RDT) for diagnosis of malaria. Urine test kits (Fyodor) have been evaluated to show its sensitivity and specificity. The use of other malaria diagnostic machine such as Gazzelle, Muse and others are being evaluated. We have been able to assessed the prevalence of malaria in Iwo, Osun State, Nigeria. We have been able to establish over-diagnosis and over-treatment of malaria in Lagos, Nigeria.
I have been working on antimalarial resistance Plasmodium falciparum. I have worked on circulating malaria parasite to Chloroquine (CQ) and Sulphadoxine pyrimethamine (SP) in Lagos, Nigeria. I am currently working on artemisinin combination therapy (ACT) resistant Plasmodium falciparum. We are examining the blood of individuals with uncomplicated malaria to monitor Plasmodium falciparum resistant parasite to ACTs.
I have worked on some neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) including Schistosoma species. I am currently working on knowing the attitude, knowledge and practices of individuals in Iwo, Osun State to NTD.
