Research
Olukemi Aromolaran investigated the environmental impact of municipal solid waste leachate on the surrounding aquifers. In the course of her PhD research, she also carried out molecular identification and characterized a novel bacterium; Bacillus aquimaris strain HSL7 which was responsible for the biodegradation of an endocrine-disrupting chemical, di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate. In addition to these, she has also worked on detection of pathogens in drinking water, green synthesis, characterization and antimicrobial potentials of nanoparticles from plant materials.
More recently, she has been pursuing research in the application of nanoparticle-enhanced ceramic filters for household water treatment.
Real time detection and monitoring of microbial contaminants in drinking water will be a great delight in the near future.
