REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SCHEDULE OF DUTIES:
1. A. POSITION: Director
B. DIRECTORATE: Health Services
C. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
To be qualified for the position, candidates must possess the following qualifications:
- A degree in Medicine from Bowen University or any other recognised Institution with evidence of registration with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
- National Youth Service Discharge Certificate or Certificate of Exemption.
- A Consultant who has the Fellowship of a Postgraduate Medical College or its equivalent Plus at least ten (10) years of experience or a Medical Officer with fifteen (15) years post-registration cognate experience in the University system; and
- Digital soft skills.
D. DUTIES
The successful candidate would be responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the following:
- General supervision of all activities in the University Health Services Department i.e., supervision of Doctors and supervision of activities in the Nursing, Pharmacy, Medical Laboratory, Maternal and Child Health Public Health, Medical Records and X-ray Sub-units.
- Acting as the link between the Health Services Department and University Administration.
- Involvement in the Appointments, Promotions and Discipline of staff.
- Involvement in policy making and implementing approved policies for the University Health Services.
- Representing the interest of the University Health Services on University Boards and Committees.
- Liaising with Ministry of Health (State and Federal), Non-Government Organizations and other University Health Centres.
- Advising the University Administration on Health-related matters.
- Supervising the conduct of medical registration for new staff and new students.
- Acting as Chairman of the Departmental Appointments and Promotions Committee.
- Membership of the Health Services Management Board.
2. A. POSITION: Administrative Officer 1 (Legal)
B. DEPARTMENT: Registry
C. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Candidates for the position of Administrative Officer I must possess the following:
- A Bachelor of Law (LLB) Degree, with at least Second Class Lower, from a recognised University and Barrister at Law (BL).
- The National Youth Service Discharge Certificate or Certificate of Exemption.
- A minimum of four (4) years cognate post-qualification (Bar) experience;
- Possession of a higher degree in the relevant field from a recognised University shall be an added advantage; and
- Digital soft skills.
D. DUTIES
The successful candidate would be responsible to the Registrar and be required to perform the following duties:
- General Administrative Services
- Providing legal advice in all aspects of law regarding all matters in the University.
- Drafting of legal documents such as Memorandum of Understanding, Agreements, Conveyances etc.,
- Holding legal briefs for the University in some cases.
- Representation of the University in some cases as counsel and advocate.
- Attend some Panels/Committee meetings to provide a legal opinion, especially concerning Disciplinary Matters.
- Serving as the secretariat to Committees; and
- Any other duties that the Registrar may assign.
3. A. POSITION: Store/Procurement/ Supplies Officer
B. DEPARTMENT: Bursary
C. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
To qualify for this position, candidates must possess the following qualifications:
- A good honours degree not less than Second Class lower in Business Administration or Higher National Diploma (HND) not less than Lower Credit in Purchasing and Supply, Business Administration or a relevant field from a recognised institution.
- The National Youth Service Discharge Certificate or Certificate of Exemption.
- Evidence of registration with an appropriate professional body such as the Institute of Purchasing and Supplies.
- At least one (1) year of relevant experience will be an added advantage; and
- Digital soft skills.
D. DUTIES
The successful candidate would be responsible to the University Bursar and be required to perform the following duties:
- Supervises staff on the junior cadre.
- Makes local purchases of approved materials and equipment.
- Checks and keeps accurate records of stocks in the store.
- Training of subordinate staff as appropriate.
4. A. POSITION: Agricultural Extension Administrator
B. PROGRAMME: Agriculture
C. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Candidates must possess the following qualifications:
- Minimum of a Second Class Lower degree in Agricultural Extension or related discipline from Bowen University or any other recognised University. Possession of a higher degree in the relevant field from a recognised University shall be an added advantage
- The National Youth Service Discharge Certificate or Certificate of Exemption.
- Have special training in Extension education as well as field experience.
- Must have a farming background and show interest in rural people and their livelihood; and
- Digital soft skills.
D. DUTIES
Among others, the successful candidate would be required to perform the following duties:
- Assists in supervising agricultural extension programmes/projects in a defined geographical area;
- Collects and assists in evaluating data on agricultural services.
- Assists in operations at the University farm.
- Be part of the team to assess and select extension agents in their areas;
- Develop a friendly farming relationship with University clientele;
- Be in contact and cooperate with farmers’ community leaders and local dealers in farm products;
- Prepare and keep up-to-date records of accomplishments on the field;
- Device and implement the system of handling the work of agri-business routinely within the University; and
- Performs any other duties that the superior officer may assign.
5. A. POSITION: Assistant Professor
B. PROGRAMME: Electrical/Electronics
C. COLLEGE: Engineering
D. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
In the Electrical Engineering Programme, we are recruiting a highly competent and result-oriented Assistant Professor (Senior Lecturer) with strong personal, academic and professional integrity to join our dynamic faculty.
The preferred candidate must possess the following:
- Must possess a Ph.D. degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering.
- Must have at least six (6) years of University teaching experience.
- Must show evidence of scholarly publications in SCOPUS-based journals and conferences.
- Must be registered with COREN and other relevant professional bodies in his field with sufficient professional and administrative experience.
- Evidence of maturity, good academic leadership and integrity.
- Other required skills include University teaching, Educational testing, Examination preparation and grading, Training/Research programme planning and delivery.
6. A. POSITION: Technologist (BUSS 07)
B. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
The preferred candidate must possess the following:
- Must possess a First Degree in the respective area of specialization in Science-related disciplines from a recognised institution.
- Must have at least three (3) years of related working experience
- The National Youth Service Discharge Certificate or Certificate of Exemption.
- Digital soft skills.
C. DUTIES
Among others, the successful candidate would be required to perform the following duties:
- Assists in supervising field/laboratory activities within a defined area.
- Participates in specific field/laboratory projects or operations.
- Takes charge of a farm within or outside the University (Agricultural Technologist).
- Performs other related duties that may be assigned by his/her superior officer
7. A. POSITION: Accountant II (BUSS 07)
B. DEPARTMENT: Bursary
C. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Interested candidates must possess a degree not lower than Second Class Lower Division in Accounting or other relevant degree (Economics, Finance, Business Administration etc.), obtained from Bowen University or another recognized University plus the National Youth Service Discharge Certificate or Certificate of Exemption and knowledge of digital soft skills.
Knowledge of IFRS and evidence of registration with any of the following Professional Accounting bodies:
- Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN),
- Association of Certified Corporate Accountants (ACCA),
- Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales (ICAEW),
- Chartered Institute of Cost and Management Accountants (CICMA)
- Associate of the Chartered Institute of Secretaries and Administrators (ACIS) will be an added advantage.
D. DUTIES
Among others, the successful candidate would be required to perform the following duties:
- Treasury
- Ensures that receipts are issued to cover any amount received on behalf of the University
- Keeps records of financial instruments issued to him/her to work with.
- Posting of financial data into the accounting package for update.
- Keeps track of accounting transactions posted into the accounting package for correctness.
- Budget and Expenditure control
- Preparation of Payment Vouchers for approved expenses.
- Collates data for the preparation of the Budget.
- Posting of Voucher to relevant expense heads
- Salaries and Wages
- Attends to staff complaints on salary matters and reports appropriately.
- Captures data on salaries and wages to the accounting package.
- Performs duties as assigned by the unit head.
- Keep adequate records of staff emoluments and deductions (PAYE, Pension etc.)
- Reconciliation Unit
- Reconciling cash book or ledgers with the banks statement.
- Prepares reconciliation statements.
- Raising of journals
- Student Account Unit
- Updates student ledgers regularly.
- Attends to student complaints.
- Keeping records of correspondence in respect of student matters.
- Final Account
- Posting of journals
- Monitoring of staff cash advance ledgers, rent schedules and insurance schemes.
- Others
- Performs other duties as required by the head of the Department.
8. A. POSITION: Assistant Technical Officer (BUSS 04)
B. DIRECTORATE: Estate Management
C. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
The preferred candidate must possess the following:
- OND in Estate Management or related Discipline.
- Must have at least three (3) years working experience in Estate Management.
D. DUTIES
Among others, the successful candidate would be required to perform the following duties under supervision:
- Examines building plans
- Maintains all University’s physical properties including the inspection and maintenance of University land boundaries.
- Controls and supervises authorized occupants of University residential properties and collection of rents.
REMUNERATIONS AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE
Bowen University runs a unique remuneration package, similar to what is obtainable in other tertiary institutions. The University is a fully residential institution. Consequently, the staff of the University must reside either in Iwo or Ogbomoso, as the case may be.
