Bowen University seeks dynamic and innovative Pastors to serve as the Assistant Chaplain. The AssistantChaplain will play a key role in shaping a vibrant and diverse community of students and staff that respects and celebrates all individual journeys full of meaning and purpose according to Christian Values and Ethos.
1. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SCHEDULE OF DUTIES:
- POSITION: Assistant Chaplain
- UNIT: University Chaplaincy
- QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
To be qualified for the position, the candidate must possess the following qualifications:- must have at least a Second Class Lower degree from a Nigerian Baptist Theological Seminary or any other Seminary recognised by the Nigerian Baptist Convention with not less than 5 years post qualification experience in Chaplaincy/ Pastoral/ Student/ Youth/ Christian Education Ministry.
- must be a member of the Nigerian Baptist Convention; and
- shall be between the age of 30 and 40 years.
- Leadership experience within religious communities or other organizations.
- Experience navigating the complexities of a university environment.
- Demonstrate understanding and commitment to faith integration and inclusivity.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and sensitivity.
- Possess digital soft skills.
- DUTIES
The successful candidate would be responsible to the University Chaplain for the day-to-day activities of the ministry for the following assignments:- Plans, conducts and evaluates a comprehensive programme of Christian education.
- Serves as an educational resource person to the University Chaplaincy in the area of G.E.L, Sunday School and Discipleship programmes.
- Assists in the process of selecting, enlisting and training of qualified persons for teaching Sunday School and discipleship, as well as Hall devotional leaders.
- Develops special educational and training programmes such as camps, retreats, and study seminars.
- Creates awareness for the University Chaplaincy on the educational and curriculum materials available.
- Familiarizes with the methods, materials, principles and administration of the educational programmes.
- Plans, conducts and evaluates a comprehensive programme of mission and outreach.
- Develop more innovative ways of evangelization within and outside the University.
- Coordinates visitation programmes to students and members of staff especially those residents on campus.
- Sensitizes the University on evangelism activities of the Nigerian Baptist Convention (NBC) towards participation.
- Participates in spiritual oversight and nurturing responsibilities for preaching stations or daughter churches.
- Assists in planning and evaluating congregational services as may be requested.
- Prepares candidates for baptism.
- Coordinates the daily devotion of JUPEB students.
- Represents the Chaplaincy in Students Support matters e.g., Committees involving Students SDC, CEREMONIES, BBSF.
- Performs other duties as may be assigned by the University Chaplain.
- Must also be involved in the Faith Integration Programme.
- Any other assignment as assigned by the University Management.
2. REMUNERATIONS AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE
Bowen University runs a unique remuneration package, similar to what is obtainable in other tertiary institutions. The University is a fully residential institution. Consequently, the staff of the University must reside either in Iwo or Ogbomoso, as the case may be.
