About the Bursary
The Bursary Unit is the financial management arm of Bowen University, responsible for maintaining sound financial practices that ensure transparency, accountability, and sustainability in all University operations. The Unit plays a vital role in supporting the University’s mission by managing resources efficiently and providing timely financial information for decision-making.
As a faith-based institution, Bowen University’s Bursary operates on the principles of integrity, stewardship, and service, ensuring that every financial transaction aligns with the University’s core values of Excellence and Godliness.

Core Functions of the BURSARY
Financial Management and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of all financial transactions.
- Prepare periodic financial statements and reports for management, Senate, and Governing Council.
- Ensure compliance with financial policies, regulatory standards, and audit requirements.
Budgeting and Expenditure Control:
- Coordinate the preparation of annual budgets for all departments and units.
- Monitor and control expenditure in line with approved budgets.
- Advise management on efficient resource allocation and utilization.
Compliance and Internal Control:
- Implement effective financial control systems to prevent errors, fraud, or misuse of funds.
- Liaise with internal and external auditors for periodic financial review and compliance.
Revenue Collection and Disbursement:
- Oversee the collection of tuition fees, levies, and other University revenues.
- Manage disbursement of funds for salaries, capital projects, and operational expenses.
- Ensure prompt and accurate remittance of statutory deductions.
Student Accounts and Financial Services:
- Maintain detailed records of student fee payments and balances.
- Provide students and guardians with clear financial information and payment support.
- Work closely with the Directorate of Student Support Services to resolve financial queries.
Payroll Administration:
- Manage staff payroll systems, including salary processing, allowances, and benefits.
- Ensure timely payment of wages and adherence to relevant financial regulations.
