ARCHITECTURE Programme
Funmilayo Adedire is a Nigerian licensed architect, and a Professor of Architecture at Bowen University, Nigeria. She is a seasoned project manager and a visionary with unusual prowess in academic administration. She holds a BSc, MSc, and PhD in architecture from the University of Lagos. She received additional degrees (MSc, PhD) in Urban & Regional Planning from the University of Ibadan and the University of Pretoria respectively. She also holds an MBA degree from the Redeemers University, Ede. She began her teaching career as a graduate assistant in the Department of Architecture of the University of Lagos in 2009. She left academia to focus on full architectural practice in 2010 and has engaged in various consultancy and contracting projects spanning over two decades. She designed and constructed different housing schemes and multi-use buildings for individuals and corporate organisations. She continues to participate in advisory services, design and implementation of viable projects all over Nigeria. Sequel to the completion of her PhD in Architecture, she returned to academia at Lead City University in 2018, she recorded outstanding feats which included full accreditations across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. She also pioneered all postgraduate degrees in Architecture with full professional and NUC accreditations.
Demonstrable results in Academia include among many initiating, and developing University academic curriculums, spearheading and securing both professional and NUC accreditations for Architecture programmes from undergraduate to postgraduate level including research programmes.

Professor Funmilayo Adedire’s research interests centre on these principal areas of architectural research, Resilient & Sustainable Housing; Architectural Technology (digital innovation in architectural practice and education), Interior Architecture and Landscape Architecture. Her research publications have covered different aspects of urban transitions, including peri-urban housing, challenges to spatial transition, urban quality and resilience of emerging African peripheral urban systems. Other areas of publications include the adoption of digital technology both in architectural education and practice. Her postdoctoral research works are currently on “The Comparative Evaluation of Urban Systems’ Resilience in Lagos Megacity Periphery Communities and Sustainability of Communities in Lagos-Ogun Periphery”. Further research experience includes reviewing reputable journals.
She has a career goal of engaging in leading research and dissemination of knowledge that would result in improved access to quality and sustainable housing development with balanced infrastructure by the majority of urban residents in peri-urban of Nigeria and other developing countries.
