Research
Having trained as a life scientist with BSc, MSc, and PhD degrees in biochemistry, I have always looked forward to using my technical skills to address biomedical questions. This fact informed my research interest, which is primarily in the areas of medicinal biochemistry and toxicology. In addition, I have been able to contribute to building the careers and character of my students and other mentees over the last few years since I started working as a university teacher and advisor to teach biochemistry courses to both undergraduate and postgraduate students. My passion for service to humanity is a key motivator here, and this is a driving force for my commitment and dedication in life. Having made contributions in the fields of toxicology and drug discovery, I desire to use my educational background, skills, and work experience to contribute to the attainment of UN SDG 3 (United Nations Sustainable Development Goal), which seeks to ensure good health and well-being for all by 2030. In this direction, I have been exploring oxidative stress and inflammation as targets for therapeutic and/or chemopreventive strategies. In particular, my research work involves toxicity and safety profiling of chemical molecules, modulation of cellular redox targets, and screening of molecules to identify therapeutic agents or inhibitors, among other areas. Being a researcher and academic gave me the opportunity to garner considerable experience working in laboratory settings. I have used in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo approaches for my research activities, and I have extensive experience in the handling of cell culture systems and related biochemical skills. Some of my work involves exploring targets in cancer and inflammation for therapeutic delivery. As part of my work, I use analytical and biochemical techniques, including HPLC, LC-MS, qPCR, cell culture, and relevant biological assays.
