Vacancy Announcement: Registrar, University Librarian & University Chaplain

Bowen University is a first-rate private Institution, owned by the Nigerian Baptist Convention. Established in July 2001, the University is committed to high performance, adding a distinctly moral dimension and Godly value to Tertiary Education.

The University is interested in engaging qualified individuals to fill the posts of:

  1. REGISTRAR;
  2. UNIVERSITY LIBRARIAN; and
  3. UNIVERSITY CHAPLAIN.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

Candidates vying for the positions of Registrar, University Librarian, and University Chaplain shall meet the following general requirements:

  • Must be a Christian, preferably of the Baptist Denomination, with a proven record of Visionary Leadership, Innovation, and Excellent Communication Skills;
  • Must be in sound physical and mental health, capable of effectively discharging the responsibilities of the office.
THE POSITION OF THE REGISTRAR AND DUTIES

The University Registrar is a Principal Officer and the Chief Administrative Officer of the University. He/she is responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the day-to-day administration of the University except as otherwise stated by the University Charter. The Registrar is also the Secretary to Council, Senate, Congregation and Convocation.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • A good Honours Degree with a minimum of Second-Class Lower Division from a recognised University and a Master’s Degree in relevant discipline;
  • At least fifteen (15) years of relevant post-graduation experience, in University Administration or similar Institution;
  • Must be digitally compliant, up-to-date in the use of Information and Communication Technology and knowledgeable (Microsoft Office Suite) in Automated Registry Operations;
  • Be conversant with current trends in reporting;
  • Be a Registered Member of any of the following Professional Bodies: ANUPA, CIPM, NIM, etc;
  • Must be between 45 and 60 years of age as of the time of assumption of duty.
THE POSITION OF THE UNIVERSITY LIBRARIAN AND DUTIES

The University Librarian is the Academic and Professional Head of the University Library and shall be responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the day-to-day Administration and Management of the University Library and its branches; providing Library and Information Services for the entire University community. By virtue of his/her position, the University Librarian is a Principal Officer of the University.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Candidates must possess a good Honours Degree from a recognized University and a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science or its equivalent;
  • Must fully understand the complexity of the University System and must be able to effectively utilize its human resources to develop a Library System that will fully support the aspirations of the University to attain world-class status;
  • At least fifteen (15) years of relevant post-graduation experience in University Administration or similar Institution;
  • Must be ICT compliant and able to move the University towards Virtual Library Applications and Platforms;
  • Must be a Certified Librarian with evidence of Membership of recognized Professional Bodies (e.g, Nigerian Library Association (NLA));
  • Possession of a Doctorate Degree will be an added advantage;
  • Must be between 45 and 60 years of age as of the time of assumption of duty.
THE POSITION OF THE UNIVERSITY CHAPLAIN AND DUTIES

The University Chaplain is one of the Principal Officers of the University and shall be responsible for the administration of the University’s overall spiritual welfare. He/She shall also be responsible for the co-ordination of all Chaplains, Reformation Chaplaincy, Campus and College Chaplaincy, Denominational Relationship Office, Student Volunteer Ministry as well as all Denomination Insignias in the University. 

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Candidates must possess a minimum of Master’s Degree in Theology or its equivalent from any Theological Institution or University recognized by the Nigerian Baptist Convention with not less than 10 years post-qualification experience in Pastoral Ministry;
  • He/ She must be digitally compliant, up-to-date in the use of Information and Communication Technology and knowledgeable in Automation of Chaplaincy Operations;
  • Evidence of working with Baptist Students’ Fellowship, Baptist Youth Fellowship, MMU/WMU and involvement with Baptist work in the University system or in the areas of Missions/Evangelism/Discipleship/Mentoring;
  • Evidence of teaching experience at the Tertiary Institution Level or its equivalent may be an added advantage;
  • Possession of a higher degree from a recognized University/Baptist Theological Seminary will be an advantage;
  • Must be between 40 and 50 years of age as of the time of assumption of duty.
GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE
  • The appointments shall be for a single term of five (5) years only, on the terms and conditions as may be specified in the letters of appointments;
  • Bowen University runs a unique remuneration package, which is similar and favourably compares with what obtains in other Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria; and as may be approved by the Governing Council from time to time;

  17. FOR UNIVERSITY LIBRARIAN: Scholarly publications, the link to Google Scholar, ORCID, SCOPUS and Research Gate (to be properly cited);
  18. FOR UNIVERSITY LIBRARIAN: Major conferences attended in the last five years with papers presented;
  19. Names and addresses of three (3) referees;
  20. Signature and date.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION TO NOTE BY CANDIDATES
  • The application should include candidate’s statement of Vision and Mission for the University Registry/University Library/University Chaplaincy for the next five years in not more than 1,000 words;
  • Referees should be contacted by each candidate to submit signed electronic copies of their report in PDF format to the same email address stated above, attesting to the academic and managerial abilities as well as moral character and uprightness of the candidate;
