The University is interested in engaging qualified individuals to fill the posts of:
- BURSAR; and
- UNIVERSITY LIBRARIAN.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
Candidates applying for the positions of Bursar, and the University Librarian are expected to meet the following general requirements:
- Must be a Christian, preferably of the Baptist Denomination, with a proven record of Visionary Leadership, Innovation, and Excellent Communication Skills;
- Must be in sound physical and mental health, capable of effectively discharging the responsibilities of the office.
THE POSITION OF THE BURSAR AND DUTIES
The Bursar is the Chief Financial Officer of the University and shall be responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the day-to-day administration and control of the financial affairs of the University. He/She shall also, from time-to-time, provide expert advice on issues of investment to generate revenue as well as disbursement of funds. He/She will perform oversight functions over the University’s Commercial Services.
The Bursar shall oversee all financial, accounting, reporting, resource mobilization, fund raising, sponsorship, grants, subventions, endorsement drives, revenue generation activities, tax and insurance functions of the University.
REQUIREMENTS:
- A good Honours Degree with a minimum of Second-Class Lower Division in Accounting, Finance, Economics or any related discipline from a recognized institution;
- At least fifteen (15) years of relevant post-graduation experience, in university administration or similar institution;
- Be a registered member or Fellow of any of the following Professional Bodies: ICAN, ICMA, CPA, ACCA, etc.
- Be ICT compliant and conversant with current trends in financial reporting – IFRS, IPSAS.
- Have proven knowledge in the use of Microsoft Office Package especially Microsoft Excel.
- Must be between 45 and 60 years of age as of the time of assumption of duty.
THE POSITION OF THE UNIVERSITY LIBRARIAN AND DUTIES
The University Librarian is the Academic and Professional Head of the University Library and shall be responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the day-to-day administration and management of the University Library and its branches; providing Library and Information Services for the entire University community. By virtue of his/her position, the University Librarian is a Principal Officer of the University.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Candidates must possess a good Honours Degree from a recognized University and a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science or its equivalent;
- Must fully understand the complexity of the University System and must be able to effectively utilize its human resources to develop a Library System that will fully support the aspirations of the University to attain world-class status;
- At least fifteen (15) years of relevant post-graduation experience in University Administration or a similar Institution;
- Must be ICT compliant and able to move the University towards Virtual Library Applications and Platforms;
- Must be a Certified Librarian with evidence of Membership in recognized Professional Bodies (e.g, Nigerian Library Association (NLA));
- Possession of a Doctorate Degree will be an added advantage;
- Must be between 45 and 60 years of age as of the time of assumption of duty.
GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE
- The appointments shall be for a single term of five (5) years only, on the terms and conditions as may be specified in the letters of appointments;
- Bowen University runs a unique remuneration package, which is similar and favourably compares with what obtains in other Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria, and as may be approved by the Governing Council from time to time;
- Fringe benefits include furnished accommodations, official vehicles and drivers and other benefits as approved by the Governing Council.

- FOR UNIVERSITY LIBRARIAN: Major conferences attended in the last five years with papers presented;
- Names and addresses of three (3) referees;
- Signature and date.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION TO NOTE BY APPLICANTS
- The application should include the candidate’s statement of Vision and Mission for the University Bursary/University Library for the next five years in not more than 1,000 words;
- Referees should be contacted by each candidate to submit signed electronic copies of their report in PDF format to the same email address stated above, attesting to the academic and managerial abilities as well as moral character and uprightness of the candidate;

- Shortlisted candidates will be requested to make themselves available for the interview with the Selection Committee of the Governing Council on a selected date and time;
